The 2nd Malatya Theatre Days, organised in collaboration with Malatya Turgut Özal University and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, took place between 10 and 19 May 2025. The plays staged at the Kemal Sunal Stage of the Malatya Congress and Culture Centre made a significant contribution to the city's cultural life and aimed to increase social interaction through art.
Both classical and contemporary works were staged during the Theatre Days, giving art lovers the opportunity to enjoy plays of different genres. The four plays in the programme provided audiences with an art-filled week.
On 10 May, Nikolay Gogol's immortal work, ‘Diary of a Madman,’ met with the audience. Directed by Dr Atakan Aslan, the play was highly acclaimed for its tragicomic portrayal of an individual's reckoning with society and his own inner world.
On 12 May, the work ‘Not All Thieves Are Bandits,’ penned by the master of Italian theatre Dario Fo, met with the audience. Directed again by Dr Atakan Aslan, the play drew attention with its story woven with the subtleties of political humour.
Directed by Sündüz Adilak, the play attracted attention with its fast-paced and entertaining structure, also known from Alfred Hitchcock's film adaptation.
On 19 May, the Malatya Theatre Days concluded with the play ‘40 Seconds’. The play, directed by Sündüz Adilak, told the life story of Gazi Yalçın Yedek, who was wounded in an EYP explosion in Gediktepe, Hakkari. Centred on a true story of heroism, the play went beyond simply recounting a military operation to shed light on the resilience of the human spirit, love of country, and the meaning of sacrifice.
Highlighting the unifying power of art, the Malatya Theatre Days served as a cultural meeting point for both university students and the city's residents. Throughout the event, theatre enthusiasts had the opportunity to watch stage performances enriched by different perspectives and interpretations.
