The play titled “40 Seconds,” staged with the support of the Malatya Governor's Office and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and prepared by the Department of Performing Arts at the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture (STMF) of Malatya Turgut Özal University, met with the audience at the Congress and Culture Center on Saturday, April 19. The play featured the moving story of Yalçın Yedek, who was wounded in a homemade explosive device (EYP) explosion in Gediktepe, Hakkari, on April 21, 2010, creating emotional moments on stage.
Written by M. Akif Güzel and directed by STMF Performing Arts Department Research Assistant Sündüz Adilak, the play featured a large cast including Can Zengin, Fatma Şahin, Filiz Kamış, M. Akif Güzel, and Yalçın Yedek. Malatya veteran Yalçın Yedek, who both narrated his own story and appeared on stage, received a standing ovation from the audience. With Sıla Çiçek as assistant director and Enes Uluçay as poster designer, the production delivered a professional performance with its stage design, music, and lighting. The play, which lasted about an hour and was aimed at audiences over the age of 13, received full marks from the audience that filled the hall. Centering on a true story of heroism, the play went beyond simply recounting a military operation, shedding light on the resilience of the human spirit, love of country, and the meaning of sacrifice.
At the end of the play, as flowers were presented to Malatya War Veteran Yalçın Yedek, the audience gave a standing ovation for an extended period.
